Ophelia

This conversational print is based on the playwright “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. It is a story about revenge, death, and romance. Ophelia is the daughter of the King and she has very little control over her own life. She symbolizes innocence until she takes her own life by drowning in a river.

This print is made up of a watercolor pattern symbolising the flowing river with white illustrations of Ophelia on top of it. Together the print conveys the scene of Ophelia in the river. The colors of this print are bright and feminine, making the pattern look juvenile from a distance. As one looks closer at it, the maturity and sadness of the illustrations become clear. This directly correlates with the story of Ophelia’s character in “Hamlet”, by showing her evolution as a character throughout the play.
