Serenity

This study stems from experimental cyanotypes. By using this traditional scientific documentation process, it explores the feeling of calmness in a world of chaos. Shattered glass is the base for the cyanotype print creating a rich texture.

Experimentation

Using a base of glass shards, I tested twenty different house hold products on the cyanotype. I was looking to see what caused a stain and what interesting textures were possible. A few main products used include hand sanitizer, paprika, tea, salt, sugar, soy sauce, soap, etc.

Using cinnamon, paprika, soap, and glass shards to create an intriguing texture with an interaction with the human body.

Using my body and precise timing, I covered additional areas of the cyanotype to create ghost images. These are the final prints.

As a textile

Cyanotype is traditional completed on high quality artist paper, but I wanted to push its limits. As a textile designer I combined my glasswork with textiles and completed a cyanotype on 100% cotton plain weave fabric.

Pushing the Boundary

Seeing how far the cyanotype could be pushed, I created a 96” by 45” exposure. It features two bodies separated by shattered glass.
